Bound typescript (carbon, 1938) compiled from genealogical notes and published sources by Caldwell Woodruff. Includes photographs, and both typescript and handwritten notes and letters (1944) updating the information in the volume. Volume includes biographical and genealogical information on the Harris family and the allied Boston, Clarkson, Gibson, Finley, Heriot, Mazyck, Simons, and Woodruff families. Bound manuscript includes photographs of individuals, places, and a document. The manuscript includes a typescript copy of "Reminiscences of Dr. Tucker Harris," a Charleston, South Carolina physician, written in 1818. Biographical sketches include those of Huguenot Benjamin Simons (ca. 1672-1717) of Middleburg Plantation in Berkeley County (S.C.); Benjamin Simons (1713-1772), an officer in the Continental Army, author on military matters, clerk of court, and planter at Clear Spring in Beaufort County (S.C.); James Dewar Simons (d. 1814), rector of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Charleston (S.C.); and other members of the Simons family. Also includes the "Narrative of Jane Harris Woodruff" (1829) which describes her romance and marriage to Joseph Woodruff (a U.S. Army officer and paymaster) in Charleston (S.C.) in 1816, their children's births and deaths, the establishment of Spring Garden Plantation on the St. John's River (Fla.), and the death of Joseph Woodruff.

Tucker Harris was born in Charleston, S.C. in 1747. He studied under Lionel Chalmers, and in 1768 he traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland to study medicine. After returning to Charleston, Dr. Harris practiced medicine under the guidance of Dr. Chalmers, and entered into his own practice after Dr. Chalmers died.
